Hong Kong actress Yuen Ka Man appeared on a talk show tonight to address years of rumors and misconceptions surrounding her. Host Yu Di Wai jokingly announced his intention to “verify the truth” at the start of the program, first asking Yuen if she’s “all natural.” He also complimented her bright, white teeth. Yuen Ka Man admitted her appearance hasn’t changed much since competing in the Miss Hong Kong pageant, explaining she’s always avoided cosmetic surgery because of her sensitive skin. She firmly stated that her bust is also natural, even suggesting the hosts ask Wu Junru and Chow Kai Kwong (Tan Suk) to confirm. She laughed, recalling being nicknamed “Big Boobs Candy” by Tan Suk after graduating.

When asked about her love life and public image, Yuen stated, “Actually, there aren’t many suitors.” She described herself as a “very simple person” who is often perceived as complex, attributing this to the influence of media portrayals. She recalled a past tradition of personally buying Christmas gifts and having tea with different reporters, only to be reported as “drinking red wine, smoking cigars, and not working,” which ultimately strained her relationship with the press. Regarding her romantic history, she revealed she’s “never had a proper boyfriend” and hadn’t been asked on a date for eight years before taking on roles in more revealing films, admitting she had “nothing to lose.”

The conversation also touched on her decision to appear in Category III films. Yuen Ka Man expressed her respect for all levels of Hong Kong cinema, explaining that she took on the role in Duck King because she trusted director Wong Jing and didn’t believe displaying the natural body was shameful. However, she admitted the sex scenes and nudity filmed were more extensive than originally scripted, particularly a scene on a yacht, which contributed to her being typecast and ultimately led to PTSD. She recounted receiving a script that required her to portray a prostitute with “outstanding oral skills,” a role she declined due to concerns about its impact on her social circle and family, as well as her discomfort with the scene requiring her to have “her head between a man’s thighs.”

Following her work in Category III films, rumors began circulating that she was being financially supported by wealthy benefactors. Yuen believes she made a mistake by moving to a more affluent neighborhood in an attempt to maintain her privacy, as the high rent only fueled speculation about her being “kept.” She shared a story about a casual dinner date where her companion unexpectedly brought along a “boss,” assuming she would be receptive to “entertaining” him. She also revealed that numerous wealthy individuals in Hong Kong had directly offered to financially support her, leaving her feeling frustrated.
