2025 marks a significant year for VW Commercial Vehicles, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the first Transporter (T1) entering series production. Alongside special edition models, the automaker announced plans for an additional version of its retro-inspired electric van, the ID. Buzz.
Volkswagen already offers a commercial variant of the ID. Buzz, known as the “Cargo” model, geared towards business users.
Currently, however, the Cargo is only available with a standard wheelbase. The passenger version of the ID. Buzz offers an extended wheelbase option, 25 centimeters longer. The company has confirmed the use of the larger 86-kWh battery pack for the extended Cargo model.
Increased Range, Increased Price
Industry publication Electrive reports the extended wheelbase is expected to increase the range from the current 461 kilometers to approximately 490 kilometers. The longer ID. Buzz Cargo is anticipated to carry a price premium similar to that of the extended passenger version – roughly €1,500 net – bringing the starting price to just under €50,000. Precise details regarding cargo space and payload capacity remain undisclosed. This expansion reflects the growing demand for electric commercial vehicles as businesses seek to reduce their carbon footprint.
And Swiss Prices?
The official Swiss list price for the extended-wheelbase ID. Buzz Cargo, announced for 2026, has not yet been published. The current, standard-wheelbase (2988 mm) electric van version is offered starting at just under CHF 62,000.
Like its passenger counterpart, the ID. Buzz Cargo features a retro design aesthetic combined with modern technology. The driver’s cabin includes three standard seats, while the interior materials are more utilitarian. The current standard-wheelbase version offers 3900 liters of cargo space and a gross vehicle weight of three tons (750 kg payload capacity).
