Porsche is expanding its popular Cayenne lineup with a fully electric model, marking a significant step in the brand’s electrification strategy. The new Cayenne EV shares no core components with the current combustion engine version, instead utilizing Porsche’s dedicated PPE electric platform – the same architecture underpinning the electric Macan.

The Cayenne has been a sales leader for Porsche since its introduction in 2002, and this electric variant aims to continue that success in a rapidly evolving automotive market. The move reflects a broader industry trend toward sustainable transportation and increasing consumer demand for electric SUVs.

Visually, the electric Cayenne maintains the familiar SUV silhouette but incorporates more assertive design details. It’s 55 millimeters (2.2 inches) longer than its gasoline-powered counterpart, measuring 4985 mm (196.3 inches) in length, 1980 mm (77.9 inches) in width, and 1674 mm (65.9 inches) in height. A key improvement is the extended wheelbase, now 3023 mm (119 inches) – an increase of nearly 13 cm (5.1 inches) – providing more legroom for rear passengers.

Inside, the Cayenne Electric offers a redesigned interior featuring standard electrically adjustable rear seats with flexible positioning options, ranging from comfort-focused travel to maximizing cargo space. The vehicle provides between 781 and 1588 liters (27.6 to 56.1 cubic feet) of cargo volume, plus an additional 90 liters (3.2 cubic feet) in the front trunk. Depending on the configuration, the new SUV can also tow trailers weighing up to 3.5 tons.

A curved OLED display dominates the dashboard, providing access to vehicle settings and controls. Porsche has retained a few physical buttons below the screen for essential functions. The driver benefits from a 14.25-inch OLED digital instrument cluster, optionally complemented by an 87-inch head-up display with augmented reality capabilities. The front passenger can enjoy a separate 14.9-inch display for entertainment or applications, designed to minimize distraction for the driver.

Porsche will initially offer two models: the Cayenne Electric and the Cayenne Turbo Electric, both featuring all-wheel drive. The base Cayenne Electric delivers 300 kW (408 hp) in normal operation and 325 kW (442 hp) with Launch Control, along with 835 Nm (615 lb-ft) of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) takes 4.8 seconds, with a top speed of 230 km/h (143 mph).

Exceptional Acceleration

The Cayenne Turbo Electric significantly boosts performance, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 2.5 seconds, and from 0 to 200 km/h (0-124 mph) in 7.4 seconds, reaching a top speed of 260 km/h (162 mph). With Launch Control activated, it achieves a peak output of 850 kW (1156 hp) and 1500 Nm (1106 lb-ft) of torque.

The Turbo variant incorporates direct oil cooling for the rear axle motor, ensuring sustained performance and efficiency. In typical driving mode, it provides up to 630 kW (857 hp), with an additional 130 kW (176 hp) available for 10 seconds via the “Push-to-Pass” function.

The Cayenne Electric also boasts impressive regenerative braking capabilities, with a maximum recovery rate of 600 kW, comparable to Formula E race cars. Approximately 97% of all braking events can be handled solely by the electric motors in typical driving conditions, minimizing reliance on conventional friction brakes. Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) are available as an option for the Turbo model.

Adaptive air suspension is standard on both models. The Turbo variant also includes a self-locking rear differential. Both can be equipped with rear-axle steering, offering up to five degrees of steering angle. Furthermore, the flagship model is the first to offer an active suspension system.

Powering the Cayenne Electric is a newly developed high-voltage battery with a capacity of 113 kWh, featuring dual-sided cooling for optimal thermal management. This results in a WLTP combined range of up to 642 km (399 miles) for the base model and up to 623 km (387 miles) for the Turbo.

Thanks to 800-volt technology, the Cayenne supports DC fast charging at up to 390 kW, and even up to 400 kW under specific conditions. The battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in under 16 minutes, and energy for a range of 325 km (202 miles) (Cayenne) or 315 km (196 miles) (Cayenne Turbo) can be added in 10 minutes.

The all-electric Cayenne models are available for order now. Pricing starts at 2,689,941 CZK (approximately $117,000 USD) for the Cayenne, which is more than 50,000 CZK ($2,200 USD) less than the Taycan 4. The Cayenne Turbo is priced at 4,242,960 CZK (approximately $184,000 USD), representing a savings of over 300,000 CZK ($13,000 USD) compared to the Taycan Turbo.
