Audi is entering a new era for its RS 5 model, transitioning to a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The move aims to boost performance and compete more effectively with rivals like the BMW M3 and Mercedes-AMG C63.
The 2027 Audi RS 5 will combine a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with an electric motor, producing a total output of 630 horsepower and 608 lb-ft of torque. This represents a significant increase over the previous generation, which offered less than 500 horsepower.

The new RS 5 is expected to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under 3.6 seconds, with a top speed of 177 mph. The addition of the electric motor provides instant torque, enhancing responsiveness and overall performance.

The RS 5 will also feature an all-wheel-drive system with a specialized center differential for improved torque distribution and handling. A new electromechanical torque vectoring system on the rear axle will further enhance stability and allow for a drift mode.

Audi RS5 can be had as a sedan (actually more of a liftback) or a more practical (and even sexier) Avant station wagon.
The RS 5 will also offer a plug-in hybrid driving mode, allowing for all-electric operation with a range of up to 84 kilometers (approximately 52 miles) thanks to a 25.9 kWh battery (22 kWh usable). The battery can be charged at up to 11 kW, taking approximately 2.5 hours for a full charge.

Displays are of course not missing, but the more important thing is the steering wheel with two special buttons.
Inside, the RS 5 features sporty anatomical seats and a steering wheel with a centering stripe and perforated leather. Two dedicated buttons on the steering wheel provide quick access to “Boost” for immediate power delivery and “RS” to select the optimal driving mode.

Order books for the RS 5 are expected to open in early March, coinciding with the start of the Formula 1 season. Pricing for the sedan starts at approximately $2,575,000 CZK (roughly $112,000 USD), while the Avant wagon is priced around $2,615,000 CZK (approximately $113,500 USD).
The RS 5’s move to a plug-in hybrid powertrain may also offer insights into the future of Audi’s higher-performance models, including the potential for a hybrid RS6.
