Utah State Falls to New Mexico 33-14 in Mountain West Matchup

Albuquerque, New Mexico – The Utah State Aggies suffered a 33-14 defeat at the hands of the New Mexico Lobos today at University Stadium, dropping their overall and Mountain West Conference records to 4-4 and 2-2, respectively.

Senior running back Miles Davis led the Aggies with 110 yards rushing on 10 attempts and one touchdown, while graduate quarterback Bryson Barnes completed 13 of 23 passes for 164 yards with a touchdown and an interception. A key special teams play opened the scoring for New Mexico, as D.J. McKinney returned a punt 49 yards for a touchdown. The Lobos capitalized on Aggie miscues, including a safety and a first-half interception, to build a commanding lead. This loss marks the second consecutive defeat for Utah State after a promising start to the season.

Davis’s 64-yard touchdown run briefly ignited the Aggie offense in the second quarter, but New Mexico quickly responded with a 40-yard touchdown pass from Jack Layne to Cade Keith. Despite reaching midfield twice in the third quarter, Utah State couldn’t narrow the gap, and a successful fake punt by New Mexico led to another Lobos touchdown, effectively sealing the victory. Junior wide receiver Braden Pegan added a late touchdown for the Aggies, finishing with 108 receiving yards on five catches.
