Detroit Police to Hold Public Vehicle Auction Today
The Detroit Police Department (DPD) will hold a public vehicle auction today, October 26, 2025, at 10:00 am at DPD Grinnell, located at 9425 Grinnell in Detroit.
The auction is open to the public, and all major credit cards, as well as debit cards bearing the Visa or Mastercard logo, will be accepted. Bids exceeding $2,500.00 will require a valid license for deposit purposes. Successful bidders must present a valid driver’s license and have funds immediately available. Vehicles will be re-keyed at the bidder’s expense, and removal must be completed by 3:00 pm on the day of the auction to avoid storage fees.
According to the DPD, individuals who currently or previously held a contract with the City of Detroit are required to sign an affidavit confirming they have no prior knowledge or connection to any vehicle offered at the auction. Law enforcement personnel are prohibited from bidding on vehicles they, their command, or anyone they have been connected to have seized or had foreknowledge of. This practice aims to ensure transparency and prevent conflicts of interest in the disposal of city assets. For more information on city ordinances, visit the City of Detroit’s official website.
The DPD reserves the right to refuse any bid. This auction provides an opportunity for the public to acquire vehicles at potentially reduced costs, while also allowing the city to recoup funds from its fleet. Further details regarding specific vehicles available can be found on GovDeals, a platform often used for public agency auctions.
DPD officials stated that all terms and conditions are final and emphasized the importance of reading all posted guidelines prior to bidding.
