Caitlin Clark Speaks to Long Island Business Leaders, Discusses Career and Foundation

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark addressed hundreds of Long Island business leaders and basketball fans yesterday at the Long Island Association’s annual fall luncheon, discussing her rapid rise in the sport and her philanthropic efforts.

The luncheon, held at Crest Hollow Country Club on October 29, typically features political or business figures, but this year highlighted Clark’s impact on women’s basketball. The 23-year-old spoke about her journey from collegiate stardom at the University of Iowa – where she became the all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division I basketball – to her Rookie of the Year season with the Fever. “I just love basketball,” Clark said. “I love the grind of getting better.”

Clark also emphasized the importance of strong support systems and brand alignment, noting her marketing degree has been invaluable in navigating sponsorships with companies like Gatorade, Nike, and Stanley. She highlighted the work of the Caitlin Clark Foundation, which focuses on youth empowerment through education, nutrition, and sports, calling it “honestly my favorite part of what I get to do.” The foundation has organized backpack giveaways and supports Boys and Girls Clubs in Iowa and Indiana, demonstrating a commitment to giving back to the community. This appearance comes as women’s basketball continues to experience unprecedented growth in viewership and revenue, largely attributed to Clark’s influence – a phenomenon known as “the Caitlin Clark effect.”

While Clark expressed her enjoyment of playing in New York, calling the fan base “absolutely incredible,” she declined to comment on ongoing negotiations between the WNBA and the Women’s National Basketball Players Association regarding a new collective bargaining agreement. The WNBA and the players association have agreed to a 30-day extension to continue talks, with players seeking improvements in pay, benefits, and overall working conditions. Clark stated her hope to continue her career with the Fever and ultimately contribute to a WNBA championship.

Officials stated that discussions with the WNBA and the players association will continue in the coming weeks.
