Estranged Husband of Denise Richards Arrested in Court on Spousal Abuse Charges
Aaron Phypers, the estranged husband of actress Denise Richards, was arrested today in a Los Angeles courtroom on charges of spousal abuse, escalating a contentious legal battle.
Richards’ attorney confirmed to authorities that Phypers was taken into custody and handcuffed inside the courtroom, with reports of a verbal altercation with sheriffs as he was escorted out. Following the arrest, officers returned to retrieve Phypers’ cellphone. This arrest follows Richards’ July petition for a temporary restraining order, alleging both physical and emotional abuse during their marriage, including a reported incident coinciding with the filing of their divorce.
During recent court testimony, Richards detailed allegations that Phypers leaked nude photos of her, causing significant distress to her and her family. “It’s been difficult for my daughters, especially with the naked photos,” Richards stated to the judge. “I’m so embarrassed and shameful as a mom. [My daughter] couldn’t go to church.” Phypers has denied the allegations, claiming Richards is attempting to damage his reputation. He has also filed a petition seeking spousal support and a share of Richards’ income from her OnlyFans account, alleging she cut off access to their joint finances. Domestic violence cases often involve complex legal and emotional challenges for all parties involved, as detailed by the National Domestic Violence Hotline.
Phypers previously asserted he obtained the photos by photographing Richards’ phone, claiming she was concealing information from him. The judge had previously forbidden Phypers from distributing any private or sexually explicit material obtained from Richards’ devices. Authorities are continuing their investigation and will present their findings to the court at a later date.
