Police Recover UZI and Vehicle Following Armed Attacks on Law Enforcement in Ercilla
Authorities launched a targeted operation in the rural community of Temucuicui on May 13, 2026, following a series of armed assaults on police units in the Ercilla area of the AraucanÃa region.

The police raid was triggered by two separate shooting incidents earlier that day. In one instance, attackers targeted the Sixth Police Station in Ercilla, causing physical damage to the facility. A second attack involved gunfire directed at police personnel stationed at a fixed point in San Ramón. Despite the violence, officials confirmed that no injuries were reported in either incident.
In response, a large-scale police contingent entered the Temucuicui community to search for the perpetrators. During the operation, officers recovered the pickup truck used in the attacks, along with a cache of weaponry that included a 9mm pistol, ammunition and a UZI submachine gun.
While the seizure of high-caliber weaponry marks a significant recovery for local authorities, police reported that no suspects were taken into custody during the raid.
These events underscore the ongoing volatility in the AraucanÃa region, where clashes between state security forces and local groups frequently result in targeted attacks on government infrastructure. The recovery of military-grade weaponry highlights the persistent security challenges faced by law enforcement operating in these rural sectors.
