Sweden’s Olympic Committee (SOK) announced a new group of athletes selected to compete in the upcoming Winter Olympics in Italy on Tuesday. The team includes a mix of cross-country skiers, biathletes, and athletes from figure skating, ski cross, and ski jumping.
Among the newly selected athletes is cross-country skier Alvar Myhlback, who had previously indicated a focus on the Ski Classics long-distance circuit. However, Myhlback has seen success in the World Cup this season, including a third-place finish in the sprint event in Trondheim.
“There are no long-distance races that clash with the Olympics, so it works out perfectly,” Myhlback said. “I know the training that makes me perform well, even in a sprint. And that involves a lot of poling, so I’m not worried about being able to ski very fast in both disciplines.”
Also receiving confirmation for the Olympic team was ski cross athlete Sandra Näslund, who has secured back-to-back World Cup victories in her return from injury.
“I’m maybe a little surprised it was a double victory right in the premiere,” Näslund stated. “I’ve been a bit unsure how I measure up against the others, so it feels really good for my confidence.”
The selected athletes are:
Cross-country Skiing: Alvar Myhlback, Anton Grahn, Linn Svahn, Johanna Hagström, Emma Ribom, Maja Dahlqvist, Moa Ilar
Biathlon: Anna Magnusson, Ella Halvarsson, Jesper Nelin, Viktor Brandt, Malte Stefansson
Figure Skating: Andreas Nordebäck,
Ski Cross: Sandra Näslund
Ski Jumping: Frida Westman
