University of Maryland Seeks Assistant Professor of Ancient Mediterranean History
The University of Maryland, College Park is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in the history of the Ancient Mediterranean worlds.
The Department of History announced today that the position welcomes historians with expertise spanning the geographical zone extending into Asia, Africa, and Europe, with chronological specialization open but a particular interest in candidates focusing on the Roman Imperial or late antique periods. Preference will be given to scholars whose work explores the diversity and complexity of the Mediterranean world through lenses such as ethnicity, gender, environment, or connectivity. A Ph.D. in History or a related field must be completed by August 1, 2026, and prior teaching experience at the college or university level is required.
Successful candidates will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, including a general survey of the ancient Mediterranean and the Near East, and contributing to curriculum development.
