Authorities were alerted on February 18, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. By a local resident who spotted a vehicle.

Divers are currently searching the area. The car is nearly submerged.

The vehicle was located only after water levels receded, revealing it in an area impacted by flooding in the Mondego basin.

The couple, ages 68 and 65, residents of Verride, were last seen leaving their home on Tuesday, February 16, 2026, and failed to return, prompting a missing persons report from family members at 7:45 p.m. On Friday, February 19, 2026.

The vehicle had been recorded by a surveillance camera along the route between Coimbra and Verride.

This footage helped authorities narrow the search area.
