Chargers Place Running Back Omarion Hampton on Injured Reserve, Add Kimani Vidal and Nyheim Hines

The Los Angeles Chargers placed running back Omarion Hampton on Reserve/Injured today, October 8, 2025, and subsequently signed running back Kimani Vidal to the active roster from the practice squad, bolstering their running back depth as the season progresses.

Vidal, a sixth-round pick in 2024, has appeared in 10 games for the Chargers, totaling 155 rushing yards on 43 attempts and five receptions for 62 yards, highlighted by a 38-yard touchdown reception on his first NFL touch. The rookie out of Troy University finished his college career as the program’s all-time leader in rushing yards (4,010) and attempts (781). He is also the great-nephew of Baseball Hall of Famer Hank Aaron.

To further strengthen the position, the Chargers also signed veteran running back Nyheim Hines to the practice squad. Hines brings five years of NFL experience, having played for the Indianapolis Colts and appearing in 81 regular-season games, with a career total of 1,202 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. He’s known for his versatility, contributing as a runner, receiver, and dynamic return specialist – a role the Chargers could utilize, as detailed by NFL.com. Hines also excelled in track and field at North Carolina State, earning All-America honors.

The Chargers did not disclose the nature or severity of Hampton’s injury. The team expects Vidal and Hines to compete for playing time and contribute to the offense in the coming weeks, according to a team statement released this afternoon.
