Chinese automaker Chery is increasing its footprint in the European automotive market, wiht plans for both imports and local manufacturing – including a new facility in Barcelona, Spain (1). The company is now rolling out new models, like the recently unveiled Tiggo 9 plug-in hybrid SUV, aimed at competing with established European brands in the seven-seat SUV segment. This report details the features and pricing of the Tiggo 9 as it launches in Czech Republic.

The Chinese automaker, Chery, is rapidly expanding its model lineup and gaining traction in the European market. The company recently unveiled the Tiggo 9, a seven-seat SUV with a length exceeding 4.8 meters and a focus on advanced technology.

The Tiggo 9 offers between 819 and 2,065 liters of cargo space with the third row folded down.
The Tiggo 9 is powered by a plug-in hybrid system combining a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with three electric motors, delivering a combined output of 428 horsepower and 580 Newton-meters of torque. The vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and has a top speed of 180 km/h. This marks the first time Chery has equipped a plug-in hybrid model with all-wheel drive.
A 34.5 kWh battery provides an electric range of up to 143 kilometers. DC fast charging can replenish the battery from 30% to 80% in 18 minutes. The vehicle also features Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, allowing it to power external devices. With the combustion engine engaged, the combined fuel consumption is 6.9 liters per 100 kilometers, with a total range exceeding 1,000 kilometers according to WLTP standards.

The Chery Tiggo 9 is priced at 1,189,000 Czech Koruna. For comparison, a base model plug-in hybrid Skoda Kodiaq starts at 1,175,000 Koruna, while the VW Tayron currently retails for 1,211,900 Koruna during a promotional period. However, the Tiggo 9 comes fully equipped as standard.
Standard features include three rows of seating, 20-inch wheels, heated and ventilated front and rear seats (with massage function in the front and electric adjustment in the rear), a dual-zone automatic climate control system, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, a heated steering wheel, a “business class” passenger seat with a near-flat reclining function, a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, a Sony audio system, a head-up display with augmented reality, wireless phone charging, and a comprehensive suite of safety and driver-assistance systems.

The model was officially unveiled this Wednesday in Prague and is now available for purchase.
Chery highlights the vehicle’s exceptional cabin soundproofing and an array of safety and driver-assistance systems, including a 360-degree camera. The new model is currently in stock and initial units have already been delivered to customers.
