Wayne County Board Approves Jail & Courthouse Internet Upgrade, Advances Courthouse HVAC Project

The Wayne County Board yesterday approved a $28,823.13 upgrade to the internet infrastructure at the Wayne County Jail and courthouse, addressing concerns about outdated systems that impact daily operations and security.

During their regular monthly meeting held Thursday evening in the upstairs courtroom, the 13-member board unanimously approved the expenditure, which will be funded through existing allocations for courthouse repairs and improvements. Dave Shipley of Midwest Telecom presented details on the necessary upgrades, prompting a detailed discussion among board members. Additionally, Nate Burgess was appointed to a vacancy on the Wayne County 911 Authority Board, following a recommendation from 911 Board Chairman Scott Clark.

The board also approved a $29,500 contractor’s bill for Phase 8 of the ongoing heating and air conditioning system installation at the courthouse, as reported by Building and Grounds Chairman Quinton Greenwalt. Routine reports were received from Sheriff Chris Otey, County Clerk Liz Ann Woodrow, and Coroner Shari Winter. Reliable HVAC systems are crucial for maintaining proper evidence storage and courtroom comfort, as outlined by the New York State Courts.

Officials indicated the internet upgrade will be prioritized to minimize disruption to county services. Further updates on the HVAC project and other county business can be found on the Wayne County News section of Headlinez News.
