Ghanaian Footballer Dominic Frimpong Dies Following Armed Ambush
A tragedy has struck the sports community in Ghana following a violent armed attack that claimed the life of 20-year-old footballer Dominic Frimpong. The athlete, a forward for Berekum Chelsea, succumbed to his injuries on April 14, 2026, after being shot during an ambush on his team’s bus.

According to reports from the club, the incident occurred as the team was traveling from a match. Six masked men armed with automatic weapons blocked the road and opened fire on the vehicle. As the driver attempted to maneuver the bus away from the attackers, players and staff fled into nearby bushes to seek cover. It was during this chaos that Frimpong sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
Medical professionals attempted to save the young player’s life, but he was later pronounced dead at a hospital. This event underscores the devastating impact of high-velocity trauma and the critical nature of emergency medical response in severe injury cases.
Local police confirmed that there were 30 players on board the bus at the time of the attack. The Ghana Football Association expressed profound shock and extended deep condolences regarding the death of the 20-year-old athlete.
The attack reportedly took place although the team was on their way to face FC Samartex, with robbers forcing the staff and players off the vehicle during the ambush.
