Square Enix officially announced Dragon Quest VII Reimagined during the September Nintendo Direct, according to IGN. The title is a complete reinterpretation of the beloved classic, signaling a renewed interest in revitalizing iconic RPGs for a modern audience.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined will feature fresh, diorama-style graphics. The game is scheduled to launch simultaneously on Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on February 5, 2026, reports Gematsu.

A Streamlined Adventure with New Scenarios

The remake differs significantly from the Nintendo 3DS version. The classic title receives new scenarios, some outdated elements have been removed, and the gameplay has been substantially streamlined.

Producer Takeshi Ichikawa emphasized to dragon-quest.org that not only mechanics, but also the narrative flow and numerous story elements have been completely reworked.

Characters receive lovingly redesigned 3D models from Akira Toriyama’s studio. Environments and dungeons appear as plastic dioramas, creating a particularly atmospheric adventure.

In the battle system, weapons and shields are now directly visible on the characters, similar to *Dragon Quest XI*. According to a post on the Square Enix Blog, these adjustments provide greater clarity in combat.

In addition to the standard version, Square Enix is offering a Collector’s Edition with physical extras (including a steelbook, figure, and plush) and DLC packages. Pre-ordering the Digital Deluxe Edition also grants early access and exclusive items.

A bonus awaits players with save data from *Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D*, as noted by Gematsu.
