The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed a hantavirus infection among a crew member of the cruise ship Hondius in the Netherlands, marking the latest development in an ongoing outbreak. The individual, who disembarked in Tenerife and was repatriated to the Netherlands, is now in isolation, according to the WHO’s report on X. This case brings the total confirmed infections to twelve, with three fatalities, though no new deaths have been recorded since the outbreak was first reported to the WHO on May 2.

The Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid en Milieu (RIVM) confirmed that the infected crew member has been in quarantine and was hospitalized for precautionary reasons. The patient had close contact with sick individuals aboard the ship, and the infection was identified through laboratory tests conducted by the RIVM and Erasmus MC. Authorities emphasize that the risk of further spread in the Netherlands remains low due to strict containment measures and close monitoring of contacts.
