Los Angeles Mental Health Campaign Reaches Over 25% of County Adults
A social marketing campaign by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH) reached more than one in four adults and over one in three young people in Los Angeles County, according to data released today.
The “Take Action for Mental Health” campaign, focused on prevention and early intervention, utilized community events, advertising, and promotion of local resources. Surveys conducted throughout 2025, both online and at LACDMH events, showed the campaign was particularly effective in reaching young adults experiencing psychological distress and adults with lower levels of education and income. This is significant as mental health challenges affect approximately one in five U.S. adults, with rates exceeding one in three among those aged 18 to 25.
Residents impacted by the January 2025 fires reported the campaign events were “very helpful” in connecting them with vital mental health resources. The campaign successfully increased awareness of available support, demonstrating the importance of accessible mental healthcare following traumatic events. Nationally, the National Institute of Mental Health offers comprehensive information and support.
LACDMH officials stated the positive results will inform the planning of the 2026 campaign, with a continued focus on reaching vulnerable populations and expanding access to mental health services.
