Fire Displaces Residents, Injures Firefighter at Camden County Apartment Complex
A fire broke out at an apartment complex in Gloucester Township, New Jersey today, displacing over 100 residents and injuring a firefighter and four others.
The fire was reported around 2:00 a.m. at the Autumn Ridge Apartment Complex, located on the 1500 block of Little Gloucester Road. First responders arrived to find heavy smoke emanating from the “C” building and immediately began evacuating residents. The complex houses approximately forty apartments, and all occupants of the affected building are receiving assistance from the Office of Emergency Management and the American Red Cross.
Authorities reported that five people were injured in the blaze; one victim is in critical condition, while the other four are stable. A firefighter sustained minor burns and is also in stable condition. The fire was brought under control at 6:19 a.m., according to the Gloucester Township Police Department. This incident highlights the importance of fire safety and preparedness in multi-unit dwellings.
“This incident serves as a reminder to inspect your fire suppression systems, including alerts and audible alarm systems, to ensure their operational status,” the Gloucester Township Police Department stated. “Smoke alarms are a crucial component of any fire escape plan. When smoke is detected, it indicates the presence of fire, which can spread rapidly. Working smoke alarms provide early warnings, enabling prompt evacuation.” You can find more information about fire prevention and safety on the U.S. Fire Administration website.
