LSU Tigers Defeat South Carolina Gamecocks 20-10 in Baton Rouge
The 11th-ranked LSU Tigers overcame three turnovers to secure a 20-10 victory over the South Carolina Gamecocks yesterday evening in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Garrett Nussmeier led the Tigers’ offense with two touchdown passes, while the LSU rushing attack achieved a season-high 168 yards, spearheaded by Caden Durham’s 70 yards on 15 carries. Despite twice losing the ball near the goal line and an interception on the Gamecocks’ side of the field, LSU’s defense proved crucial, holding South Carolina to just 10 points.
South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers completed 124 passing yards but faced significant pressure, taking five sacks and throwing one interception. The Gamecocks repeatedly drove into LSU territory – six times in total – but were unable to capitalize, with possessions ending in a missed field goal, punts, and a turnover on downs. A key defensive play came with 5:43 remaining when LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane broke up Sellers’ fourth-down pass, setting up a crucial field goal. This win keeps LSU firmly in contention within the NCAA football standings.
Damian Ramos’s second field goal, with 1:46 left in the game, extended LSU’s lead and effectively sealed the victory. The Gamecocks’ Matt Fuller briefly gave South Carolina a 7-3 lead in the second quarter with a 72-yard touchdown run, but LSU responded to regain control.
