‘Law & Order: SVU’ Star Kelli Giddish Mourns Loss of Her Dog, Frannie
Kelli Giddish, star of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” confirmed the death of her dog, Frannie, who also appeared on the show, yesterday.
Giddish shared the news of Frannie’s passing in a recent interview, explaining the dog died in June after nearly 15 years with her. “Lost my girl yesterday,” Giddish wrote on Instagram at the time. “She’s been by my side every step for nearly 15 years. Wise, warm, gentle but our family’s fierce protector. My protector and confidante. I don’t really have the words to say everything that she meant to me. So much love in my heart and hers. We found each other, and that’s what I’m beyond thankful for.” Frannie was Giddish’s real-life dog and became an integral part of her character, Sergeant Amanda Rollins’ family on the long-running series.
Giddish hopes to honor Frannie’s memory on the show, suggesting a photograph of the dog be displayed on Rollins’ desk at the station, now that the sergeant has been reinstated as a full-time Special Victims Unit officer. “I think there’s going to be a picture of her that surfaces,” Giddish said, chuckling. “I’m like, ‘I know Rollins had three kids, but can we put a picture of Franny up on the desk?’” The character’s return to the squad followed discussions with Captain Benson regarding changes within the Intelligence Unit; you can learn more about the show’s history on NBC’s official website.
The loss of a pet can be deeply felt, and the gesture reflects the close bond between Giddish and her dog, as well as the show’s willingness to acknowledge personal connections within its storylines. Animal companions often become cherished members of families, and their passing can be a significant emotional event, as detailed by the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Giddish indicated the show is still determining how to address Frannie’s absence in future episodes.
