Cape Henlopen Field Hockey Secures 12th Consecutive Shutout Victory
The Cape Henlopen High School field hockey team continued its dominant season today, achieving a 3-0 shutout victory over Newark Charter, bringing their record to 12-1 with all wins secured without allowing a single goal.
The Patriots, entering the game with a strong 9-1 record and several Division I-committed players, were unable to penetrate Cape’s staunch defense led by Regan Best, Ally Diehl, and Ellen Ramsey, who collectively held Newark Charter to zero shots on goal. Cape controlled the pace of the game, finishing with a 14-0 advantage in shots and a 12-1 lead in penalty corners. Alysa McCarthy, Atia Sabbagh (assisted by Kailey McMahon), and Emily Wells (assisted by Avary Miller) each scored a goal for Cape in the first half, while goalkeeper Izzy Mekulski earned the win. Newark Charter’s Karly Estes recorded 11 saves in the losing effort.
This victory further solidifies Cape Henlopen’s position as a top contender in Delaware high school field hockey, potentially setting them up for a strong playoff run. The junior varsity team also secured a 4-0 win, improving their season record to 9-1-1, with Emmilyn Swope scoring twice and Natalie Arseneau and Meredith Frederick each adding a goal; Alexis Puddicombe earned the win against 26 shots on goal.
