Former Government Official Details Stress-Induced Heart Condition, Career Change

A former high-ranking local government official has revealed she experienced a stress-induced heart condition that led her to sell her home, quit her job, and move in with her parents to pursue a new career as a hypnotherapist.

Just over a year ago, Laura Kerr was managing hundreds of staff and millions of British pounds, routinely working long hours and remaining connected to work even during vacation. She described feeling “trapped” by the financial responsibilities of providing for her 13-year-old daughter. In August 2024, Kerr experienced a heart spasm and numbness, prompting a call to emergency services. She was subsequently diagnosed with Supraventricular Tachycardia, a heart condition triggered by chronic stress.

Following her diagnosis and a period of medical leave, Kerr made the difficult decision to sell her house and move back in with her parents. “That first night sleeping in the kitchen was the best night of sleep I ever recalled having,” she stated, adding that the move alleviated financial anxieties and provided a supportive environment.
