Progressive Slovakia leads in latest Ipsos poll with nearly 20 percent support, while governing coalition partners Smer and Hlas show significant declines.
The poll, conducted online from April 17 to 22 among a representative sample of 1,046 respondents, shows Smer dropping to 17.4 percent support, down from around 20 percent in March. Hlas fell to 6.8 percent from 8.2 percent in March, nearing the five percent electoral threshold.
Declared voter turnout was 63 percent. If elections were held in mid-April, Progressive Slovakia would win with almost 20 percent of the vote, followed by Smer at 17.4 percent.
The opposition bloc collectively could form a comfortable governing majority with 87 seats, according to the poll analysis. Meanwhile, the governing coalition is losing momentum as Smer’s decline continues and Hlas approaches the threshold of electability.
Should the governing coalition raise the electoral threshold to seven percent, Hlas would likely fail to enter parliament. The proposal by Robert Fico to increase the threshold did not pass due to opposition from SNS, and Hlas.
Republica maintains over 11 percent support, holding third place.
