BROMONT, QC — The Union québécoise des microdistilleries (UQMD) has announced that the 2026 Prix Distinction has been awarded to Isabelle Rochette, Chief Distiller at CIRKA Distilleries. The honor recognizes Rochette’s exceptional contributions to the growth and international profile of the Quebec spirits industry.
Recognizing Industrial Leadership and Expertise
The Prix Distinction is designed to honor individuals who have left a lasting impact on the spirits sector through their commitment, technical expertise, and influence. Established in 2025, the award was first presented to Michel Jodoin; this year, the UQMD highlighted Rochette as a pioneer whose work has fundamentally evolved the credibility and quality standards of distillation within the region.

This recognition underscores the importance of technical mastery and precision in the artisanal production sector, where the intersection of traditional craft and industrial rigor drives innovation.
A Multidisciplinary Path to Mastery
Rochette’s ascent in the industry is marked by a diverse professional background that informs her technical approach. Before specializing in spirits, she worked in photography and design and completed sommelier training at the ITHQ. This multifaceted experience helped her develop a disciplined approach to taste, structure, and precision—skills that became central to her work in distillation.
Her transition into the field followed an extensive research period across North America. Rochette spent a year visiting various breweries, vineyards, and distilleries throughout Canada and the United States to refine her understanding of the product.
Rapid Ascent at CIRKA Distilleries
Rochette joined CIRKA Distilleries in 2015 during the company’s initial startup phase. Entering the organization as an apprentice before the first commercial production run, she demonstrated such technical proficiency that she was promoted to Chief Distiller in less than one year.
The award was officially presented on April 20, 2026, during the UQMD’s annual congress, cementing Rochette’s status as one of the most respected figures in Quebec’s distilling landscape.
