The Italy-Spain Final

The first singles match of the Davis Cup final between Italy and Spain pitted Matteo Berrettini against Pablo Carreno Busta. Berrettini won the first set 6-3 after 35 minutes, then secured the second set – 6-4 – giving Italy the first point. The second singles match featured Flavio Cobolli and Jaume Munar: Cobolli lost the first set 6-1 in 34 minutes, then won the second 7-6 after an hour and 30 minutes. The Italian then won the decisive third set 7-5. The match, with Cobolli’s comeback, lasted approximately three hours, making the doubles match unnecessary.

Two Hard-Fought Semifinals

Italy advanced directly to the final thanks to the performance of Flavio Cobolli, who defeated world No. 43 Zizou Bergs in the second match of the semifinal against Belgium, sending Steve Darcis’ team home. The semifinal between Spain and Germany was equally competitive. This was somewhat of a surprise, given that Germany boasted the highest-ranked player in the Davis Cup, Alexander Zverev, currently ranked third in the world. However, David Ferrer’s team managed to defeat their opponents in three matches, including a doubles victory for Granollers and Martinez, who defeated the Krawietz and Puetz pairing in three sets (6-2, 3-6, and 6-3).
