South Dakota State Volleyball Remains Undefeated in Conference Play with Win Over South Dakota

The South Dakota State Jackrabbits continued their dominant run in conference play yesterday, defeating the South Dakota Coyotes 3-1 in a match held in Brookings, South Dakota.

Sylvie Zgonc led the Jackrabbits with an impressive 21 points, all from kills, and also achieved a double-double with 11 digs. Hannah Klein contributed 17.5 points, including 12 kills and three service aces, while setter Rylee Martin orchestrated the offense with 46 assists and 10 digs. For the Coyotes, Lauren Medeck was the top scorer with 15 points on 14 kills, and Amanda Loschen added 13.5 points. This victory solidifies SDSU’s position as a strong contender for the conference championship.

The match featured a back-and-forth first set, ultimately won by South Dakota 25-22, but South Dakota State responded strongly, taking the next three sets with scores of 25-19, 25-18, and 25-19. Key moments included a decisive run in the second set fueled by a Madison Burr kill and a strong finish in the fourth set highlighted by blocks from Syndi Schetnan and Annalee Ventling-Brown. South Dakota State’s undefeated conference record is particularly noteworthy as they aim for an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
