Jerry Boston, Longtime TransCanada Employee and Avid Fisherman, Dies at 69

Jerry Ray Boston, a retired energy industry professional and devoted family man, passed away September 22, 2025, in Freeport, Florida, at the age of 69.

Born July 29, 1956, in Washington, Kansas, Boston spent his early years on a family farm before embarking on a career that took him to Omaha and Kansas City. He worked for Enron, which later became TransCanada, for over a decade, finding fulfillment in his work and camaraderie with his colleagues. He retired after seven years in Kansas City. Boston was known for his willingness to help others and his ability to fix almost anything, qualities cherished by those who knew him. His passing highlights the growing number of Americans choosing to retire in coastal states like Florida, seeking a relaxed lifestyle.

Throughout his life, Boston prioritized family and friendships. He shared 25 years with his wife, Marla Cross, and was a father figure to Kira Cross, in addition to his children Angela, Kyle, and Nicole. He enjoyed creating lasting memories with his children and grandchildren – Ryan, Raelyn, and Phaedra – through camping, fishing, and hunting trips. He maintained a lifelong friendship with Lyle Schuette, whose death in 1998 deeply affected him. Details about organ donation can be found at OrganDonor.gov.

In retirement, Boston pursued his passion for fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, spending several days a week on the water. He was fishing on his final day. A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 10:30 AM at West Center Chapel in Omaha, Nebraska, with visitation beginning at 9:30 AM, followed by interment at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. A live broadcast of the service will be available at Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak-Cutler.

Officials stated that Boston’s generosity extended beyond his lifetime through organ donation, offering hope to those in need.
