Bodø/Glimt fans can breathe a collective sigh of relief as manager Kjetil Knutsen has agreed to an extension with the club, as confirmed to Avisa Nordland. Knutsen, who has guided Glimt to unprecedented success including four league titles and a memorable Champions League campaign, has become synonymous with the club’s remarkable rise in recent years. While details of the contract length remain undisclosed, the agreement signals a continued commitment from both parties as Glimt competes on multiple fronts.
Bodø/Glimt’s highly successful manager will remain with the club.
Kjetil Knutsen confirmed the news to Avisa Nordland.
“We have an agreement. To be honest, we haven’t signed the contract yet, but we are in agreement.”
“How long is the contract?”
“No, forget about that. Goodness gracious. It’s completely unimportant. It could be ten years, it could be two years. As long as it’s right for Glimt. That’s why we work here. The length of the contract doesn’t matter. When someone else does a better job than me, I just have to step aside. That’s important. What’s best for Glimt,” said Kjetil Knutsen.
TV 2s expert: – As big as Champions League qualification
The extension has delighted TV 2’s football expert Jesper Mathisen.
“This was a huge and important day for Bodø/Glimt when they qualified for the Champions League, but today is just as big now that Kjetil Knutsen is signing such a long contract,” Mathisen said, adding:
“Many deserve credit for the incredible journey they’ve created, but no one has been or is more important than Knutsen.
The Bergen native has led Glimt to four league titles and two silver medals, as well as the ultimate adventure in the Champions League.
“He is completely unique, and the football genius from Bergen is the person who has set the standard for what should always be good enough – and he is never satisfied.”
A story that continues
Knutsen arrived at Glimt before the 2017 season, when the club had just been relegated to the Obosligaen.
After serving as Aasmund Bjørkan’s assistant for one year, Knutsen took over as head coach in Eliteserien in 2018.
His debut season as head coach ended in 11th place. After that, the club took off.
In 2019, Knutsen was named Coach of the Year after Glimt surprised everyone and finished in second place.
The following year, they won the Eliteserien for the first time, and Knutsen was again named Coach of the Year.
In 2021, Glimt won the Eliteserien for the second time. That was also the year Glimt reached the group stage of a European competition for the first time, where they notably defeated Roma and José Mourinho 6-1 at Aspmyra. The stunning victory announced Glimt’s arrival on the European stage.
This season, Glimt is participating in the Champions League for the first time.
The story is developing.
