A tragic traffic incident on the TEM Highway in Kocaeli, Turkey, claimed the lives of a mother adn son today. Ümit Yıldız, 23, and his mother, Menşure Yıldız, were pronounced dead after their vehicle struck a barrier at the Gebze Organized Industrial Zone toll plaza. The crash highlights ongoing concerns about road safety on one of Turkey’s busiest transportation routes, where traffic volume routinely exceeds 75,000 vehicles daily.

A 23-year-old man and his mother died December 20th after a car crash at a toll plaza in Kocaeli, Turkey. The incident on the TEM Highway underscores the dangers of roadway travel, even at controlled access points.

According to reports, Ümit Yıldız lost control of his vehicle, a 2024 MG, at the Gebze Organized Industrial Zone toll booths. The car, with license plate 34 MGV 886, then struck a concrete barrier.

The force of the collision caused extensive damage to the vehicle. Both Yıldız and his mother, Menşure Yıldız, sustained critical injuries and were transported by ambulance to nearby private hospitals for treatment.

Despite the efforts of medical personnel, both mother and son succumbed to their injuries. Authorities confirmed the deaths later that day.

Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. The incident occurred on the TEM Highway, a major transportation artery in the region.
