Former NBA Player Kyle Singler Charged with Assault in Oklahoma
Former Duke University and Oklahoma City Thunder player Kyle Singler was charged today with misdemeanor assault in Oklahoma after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.
Singler, 37, was arrested Thursday in Whitefield, Oklahoma, after a 911 call reported him chasing a woman. Haskell County jail records show he was released on a $6,000 bond. According to an arrest affidavit, Singler’s girlfriend told a sheriff’s deputy that he grabbed her head and shoved her to the ground, with Deputy Mitch Dobbs observing visible marks on her face and arm. The woman also stated Singler is the father of her young child, who was present during the alleged incident.
Authorities reported Singler did not cooperate with the investigation and appeared to be under the influence of narcotics. He is facing one misdemeanor count of assault and battery in the presence of a child. This arrest follows a concerning incident last year where Singler posted a cryptic message on Instagram expressing fear for his life, prompting support from former teammates.
Singler was a key player on Duke’s 2010 national championship team and enjoyed a professional basketball career that included stints in the NBA with the Detroit Pistons and Oklahoma City Thunder. He was selected 33rd overall in the 2011 NBA draft and was named to the All-Rookie Second Team in 2013. Court records do not currently indicate whether Singler has retained legal counsel, and his former agent has stated he no longer represents him.
The Haskell County District Attorney’s office will now proceed with prosecution, and a court date has not yet been set.
