A recent health outreach program in La Guaira state, Venezuela, provided critical medical services too over 250 seniors. This initiative, a collaboration between the National Public Health System and state social protection agencies, sought to address healthcare access for a vulnerable population-one facing increasing challenges amid notable emigration from the country [[1]] and reported shortages of medicine [[2]]. The program offered a wide range of free services, from preventative screenings to specialized care, as part of a broader effort to strengthen public health resources for Venezuelan seniors.
More than 250 older adults benefited from a comprehensive health outreach program recently held at the Carlos Soublette High Technology Center in La Guaira state. The initiative, a collaboration between the National Public Health System (SPNS) and the Social Protection Secretariat of the state government, aimed to provide accessible, free, and high-quality medical care to seniors.

The health day offered specialized care in several key areas, including general medicine, gastroenterology, and physical medicine and rehabilitation. Preventive services were also a major focus, with vaccinations and deworming treatments readily available. Diagnostic screenings formed another crucial component of the program, encompassing mammograms, bone density scans, ultrasounds, radiology services, blood pressure checks, and clinical laboratory tests.
Participants also had access to a pharmacy providing necessary medications. The high level of community engagement demonstrates the significant need for, and positive impact of, these types of health initiatives for seniors, a population prioritized within public health policies. Regular health screenings and preventative care are vital for maintaining the well-being of older adults and addressing age-related health concerns.

The program is part of a broader strategy championed by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and Minister of Popular Power for Health, Magaly Gutiérrez, to strengthen the National Public Health System. These efforts aim to ensure the right to health and comprehensive well-being for the country’s senior citizens through concrete actions and increased access to care.
