Ohio Congressman Investigating Swastika Image Found in Office

Representative Dave Taylor, a Republican from Ohio, announced today that his office is under investigation after an image containing what he called a “vile and deeply inappropriate symbol” was discovered near a staff member’s workspace.

The image, reportedly an American flag altered to include a swastika, was found attached to a bulletin board in Taylor’s Washington, D.C. office. A photograph of the altered flag has circulated widely. “The content of that image does not reflect the values or standards of this office, my staff, or myself, and I condemn it in the strongest terms,” Taylor stated on his congressional website. The discovery comes amid heightened scrutiny of extremist symbols and ideologies in political spaces.

Taylor said he immediately directed a thorough investigation in conjunction with Capitol Police, which is currently ongoing. He declined to provide further details, stating, “No further comment will be provided until it has been completed.” The incident is being treated as “office vandalism” according to a headline on Taylor’s official website. The presence of such a symbol is particularly sensitive given the historical context of the swastika and its association with hate groups, and could potentially lead to increased security measures for congressional offices. Capitol Police are continuing their investigation, and further updates will be provided as they become available. For more on hate symbols, the Anti-Defamation League offers extensive resources.
