Lenovo Launches AI-Powered Visual AI Glasses V1, Challenging Rokid in AR Market

Lenovo today announced the release of its Visual AI Glasses V1, lightweight augmented reality glasses designed to compete with leading devices like the Rokid Glasses.

Weighing just 38 grams and featuring 1.8mm thick lenses, the Visual AI Glasses V1 utilize a micro-LED display with resin diffraction waveguide technology – a first for the industry, according to Lenovo. While lighter than the Rokid Glasses’ 48 grams, the Lenovo device makes tradeoffs, notably lacking a built-in camera and having a smaller 167mAh battery. The glasses boast a single display with a brightness of 2,000 nits, offering both monocular and binocular viewing modes, and an eye-tracking viewing area of 15 x 11 mm.

The Visual AI Glasses V1 are equipped with features including live translation with conversation mode, a teleprompter function, and AI-powered navigation, all driven by Lenovo’s proprietary AI. Users can interact with the glasses via touch controls and stereo speakers integrated into the temples, connecting through Bluetooth 5.4. Lenovo estimates the battery will provide 8 to 10 hours of use in translation mode, with a full charge taking approximately 40 minutes. The development of more accessible AR glasses could significantly impact fields like remote assistance and language learning.

Currently, the Lenovo Visual AI Glasses V1 are available for pre-order in China for CNY 3,999 (approximately $562/€484) with shipments beginning November 9. This price point is slightly lower than the Rokid Glasses, which retail for $599 and include a 12MP camera, a larger 210mAh battery, and dual displays. The Lenovo AI Glasses V1 are lightweight, AI-powered AR glasses that have arrived as a rival to the Rokid Glasses. While they are lighter than Rokid’s wearable, there are tradeoffs, such as a smaller battery and the lack of a camera.

The Rokid Glasses are touted as the world’s lightest full-function AI & AR glasses thanks to their impressive 48-gram weight. However, while Lenovo isn’t making any claims to having the lightest smart glasses, its Visual AI Glasses V1 are lighter than Rokid’s.

Weighing 38 grams and sporting lenses that are 1.8mm thick, the Lenovo Visual AI Glasses V1 are AI & AR glasses like the Rokid Glasses. Lenovo has opted for a micro-LED display, which it claims is the first in the world to use resin diffraction waveguide technology (machine translated).

However, while the Rokid Glasses have dual displays with a brightness level of 1,500 nits, the Lenovo Visual AI Glasses V1 has a single display with a brightness level of 2,000 nits. It is also said to have an option for users to switch between monocular and binocular modes and an eye-tracking viewing area of 15 × 11 mm for a stable experience when on the move.

The Lenovo Visual AI Glasses V1 has several features, such as live translation with conversation mode, a teleprompter mode, and AI navigation. It is powered by Lenovo’s proprietary AI. In addition, the glasses have touch controls and stereo speakers on the temples. They connect via Bluetooth 5.4 and have a 167mAh battery capacity that should provide between 8 to 10 hours of use in translation mode. A full charge takes 40 minutes.
