Los Angeles Halloween Events Offer Spooky Diversions from Theater to Haunted Experiences

Los Angeles is hosting a wide array of Halloween and Día de los Muertos events, ranging from theatrical premieres and immersive experiences to family-friendly festivals, offering residents and visitors numerous ways to celebrate the season.

The Odyssey theater in Pasadena is debuting the American premiere of the musical thriller “Bluebeard’s Castle” today, running through November 23rd. Playwright and director Sofia Streisand, who successfully staged the production in several European countries, described the folktale as holding “a lot of symbolism…profound and speak[ing] something true about human nature.” The musical explores themes of violence and the complexities of relationships, with Streisand noting her surprise at the unfamiliarity of the Bluebeard story among Los Angeles audiences. This production arrives as interest in psychological thrillers on stage continues to grow.

For those seeking a more interactive experience, The Bunker Experience at 20 N. Raymond in Pasadena offers a post-apocalyptic mission within a historic haunted basement, open today from 2 to 9 p.m. Participants navigate a maze and face live-action role players in a race against time, with tickets starting at $62 per person. Alternatively, a Haunted Pasadena Walking Tour begins at 6:30 p.m. outside The Stand at 36 S. El Molino Avenue, exploring eerie alleys and sharing local haunted history; more information can be found at Visit Pasadena.

On the Westside, The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts will host a Día de los Muertos celebration tomorrow, November 1st, featuring music, dance, food, and activities from groups like Self Help Graphics & Art and Pacifico Dance Company. Director of Education Imani Hollingsworth emphasized the event’s focus on honoring those who have passed and bringing families together. A concert featuring Latin children’s artist Sonia De Los Santos will follow on November 8th; details on The Wallis’s programming can be found on their website.

Officials anticipate high attendance at these events, encouraging attendees to book tickets in advance where necessary.
