Nationwide Protests Planned This Weekend Against Trump’s National Guard Mobilization
Nationwide demonstrations are scheduled for today, October 14, 2025, as activists protest President Trump’s deployment of the National Guard to several major U.S. cities.
The protests, organized under the “No Kings” banner by the 50501 movement – representing 50 protests across 50 states – stem from concerns over what organizers describe as authoritarian tendencies within the Trump administration. The movement gained traction over the past year with rallies opposing the administration, including a large gathering in June that proceeded despite heightened security concerns following the tragic shooting deaths of Minnesota Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, and the discovery of “No Kings” flyers in the vehicle of the accused assassin. Despite the circumstances, an estimated 25,000 to 30,000 people participated in the June rally at the Minnesota State Capitol.
A significant rally is planned for downtown Minneapolis, beginning at 1 p.m. at The Commons park near U.S. Bank Stadium, featuring speakers including Pastor Jim Erlandson, Bernie Burnham of the Minnesota AFL-CIO, Monique Cullars-Doty of Black Lives Matter Minnesota, Dr. Kate Beane, and Attorney General Keith Ellison. Participants will then march along a route that has not been publicly disclosed. Numerous other protests are planned across Minnesota, from St. Paul to White Bear Lake, and even extending into Wisconsin, with a full list of locations available here. This wave of protests arrives as the Trump administration celebrates a recent peace deal between Israel and Hamas, resulting in the release of 20 Israeli hostages.
President Trump previously dismissed the “No Kings” label, stating, “I don’t feel like a king. I have to go through hell to get stuff approved.” He cited the challenges of securing approval for policies like the California electric vehicle mandate as evidence against the claim. Indivisible Twin Cities, organizing the Minneapolis rally, stated, “Trump and his regime are doubling down — sending militarized agents into our communities, silencing voters and critics, and handing billionaires giveaways while families struggle. This isn’t just politics. It’s democracy versus dictatorship.” Authorities are monitoring the planned demonstrations and have urged participants to remain peaceful.
Officials have stated they will continue to assess the situation and respond accordingly to ensure public safety throughout the weekend.
