Pixel Watch Receives Final Guaranteed Update, Will Not Get Wear OS 6

Google is rolling out a final software update to the original Pixel Watch today, October 27, 2025, extending support for the 2022 device but confirming it will not receive the upcoming Wear OS 6.

The October 2025 update, identified as BW1A.251005.003.W1, is based on Wear OS 5.1 and Android 15, and marks the first release since June. While the update includes security patches and bug fixes, the Android security patch level remains at June 5, 2025. Users can initiate the download by repeatedly tapping the “Your watch is up to date” option within the system update settings, and disabling Bluetooth can expedite the process.

Throughout its lifespan, the Pixel Watch has received Wear OS 3.5 (Android 11), Wear OS 4 (Android 13), Wear OS 5 (Android 14), and Wear OS 5.1 (Android 15). Google typically provides three years of software updates for its Pixel Watch models, and this release fulfills that commitment for the initial Pixel Watch. This means the device will miss out on the visual overhaul planned with the Material 3 Expressive redesign, though app functionality will continue through the Google Play Store.

The lack of further OS updates highlights the importance of considering long-term software support when purchasing wearable technology. Wear OS continues to evolve, and newer devices will benefit from the latest features and security enhancements.

Google’s release notes simply state the update delivers “Security updates and bug fixes,” and officials have not yet commented on the end of software support for the 2022 Pixel Watch.

With Wear OS 6 not available on the Pixel Watch, Google is rolling out an October 2025 update to the original device.

This is still Wear OS 5.1 based on Android 15 and the first update since June: BW1A.251005.003.W1. However, the Android security patch level remains at June 5, 2025.

Update: Google’s release notes just mention “Security updates and bug fixes.”

Over the course of its life, the Pixel Watch got Wear OS 3.5 (Android 11), Wear OS 4 (Android 13), Wear OS 5 (Android 14), Wear OS 5.1 (Android 15).

The Pixel Watch gets three years of updates (which is still the case for this year’s model), and this should be the last guaranteed release for the 2022 device. It will miss out on the Material 3 Expressive redesign, but apps will continue to get updated via the Play Store.

As always, tapping the “Your watch is up to date” screen (Settings > System > System updates) multiple times initiates the download. To speed up the process, open Connectivity preferences and disable Bluetooth to force Wi-Fi.
