Blues Announce Lineup Changes for Wednesday Matchup Against Capitals
St. Louis Blues Head Coach Jim Montgomery has announced two changes to the team’s lineup for tonight’s game against the Washington Capitals at Capital One Arena (6:30 p.m. CT, TNT, HBO, 101 ESPN).
Nathan Walker will return to the fourth line alongside Alexey Toropchenko and Nick Bjugstad, having sat out during yesterday’s win against the Edmonton Oilers. Defenseman Logan Mailloux will also enter the lineup, replacing Matthew Kessel. Montgomery explained the moves, stating, “We think it’s important against a team like Washington you have some physicality. Both of those guys bring physicality. And we don’t want guys sitting out too long. Both of them are big parts of our team this year and for the future.”
The Blues are seeking consecutive victories, while the Capitals are currently experiencing a four-game winless streak (0-3-1). The team’s recent defensive improvements are a key factor as they aim to continue their positive momentum; the Blues struggled defensively in their first nine games of the season, a period they are now actively working to overcome. Montgomery highlighted the team’s progress, noting, “Our team game is building the right way. We’ve gotten significantly better defensively…you’re starting to see more puck possession, you’re starting to see us make more plays which is helping our offense.” These adjustments come as the Blues navigate a competitive Central Division and strive for a playoff position. The team will assess player performance following tonight’s game and continue to adjust the lineup as needed throughout the season, according to Montgomery.
