Sony is adjusting its PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium game library for December, confirming the removal of nine titles as part of its ongoing content rotation. The departing games-including Forspoken, Battlefield 2042, and entries from the Star Wars and Grand Theft Auto franchises-impact subscribers to the two higher tiers of the PlayStation Plus service, which launched in its current tiered structure in June 2022. While some titles are leaving, Sony is simultaneously bolstering the catalog with anticipated additions like a remastered Red Dead Redemption and the return of Grand Theft Auto 5.

PlayStation Plus subscribers will see nine games removed from the Extra and Premium tiers in December 2025, Sony has confirmed. The departing titles include popular games like Forspoken, Battlefield 2042, and Grand Theft Auto 3 – The Definitive Edition. The changes will not affect PlayStation Plus Essential members, who do not have access to the rotating game catalog.

The shift in PlayStation Plus’s structure, implemented in 2022, created three membership levels: Essential, Extra, and Premium. Essential provides monthly games, online multiplayer access, cloud saves, and exclusive discounts. Extra and Premium tiers build on these benefits with a broad library of playable titles, though availability is subject to change as games are regularly added and removed. This ongoing rotation is a core component of the service’s model.

The games leaving PS Plus in December are Forspoken (PS5), Battlefield 2042 (PS4 and PS5), GTA 3 – Definitive Edition (PS4 and PS5), Sonic Frontiers (PS4 and PS5), Surviving Mars (PS4), Star Trek: Bridge Crew (PS4, PSVR), Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge (PSVR2), Firefighting Simulator: The Squad (PS4 and PS5), and Arcade Paradise VR (PSVR2). The removals span both traditional gaming experiences and virtual reality titles, reflecting the catalog’s diversity and its continuous evolution.

Despite these departures, November and December are shaping up to be substantial months for PlayStation Plus members. Grand Theft Auto 5 will return to the catalog on November 18, alongside additions like Pacific Drive, Still Wakes the Deep, and MotoGP 25. Premium subscribers will also gain access to Tomb Raider: Anniversary through the Classics library.

Sony also announced that an updated version of Red Dead Redemption will be added to the service on December 2. This version will offer support for 60 FPS, enhanced graphics, HDR, and resolutions up to 4K on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, making it a key addition for Extra tier subscribers. The inclusion of updated titles demonstrates Sony’s commitment to providing a high-quality gaming experience.

With new games arriving and others departing, December will continue to highlight the dynamic nature of PlayStation Plus, reinforcing the ongoing rotation as a central element of the Extra and Premium offerings. The service’s evolving catalog is a key strategy for attracting and retaining subscribers in a competitive gaming landscape.
