Murray State Racers Fall to No. 10 Illinois State in Hard-Fought Contest
The Murray State Racers suffered a 46-32 loss to the No. 10 Illinois State Redbirds yesterday evening at Roy Stewart Stadium in Murray, Kentucky.
Despite the defeat, the Racers (0-6, 0-2 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference) showcased significant offensive improvement, racking up a season-high 471 yards of total offense and scoring 32 points. Trailing 28-3 midway through the second quarter, Murray State mounted a spirited comeback, highlighted by touchdown runs from Jordan Washington and Jim Ogle. Jewaun Northington also added a touchdown in the fourth quarter, bringing the Racers within 10 points, but they were unable to close the gap. This loss continues a challenging season for the Racers, who are seeking their first win.
Key moments included a 15-play, 77-yard drive capped by Washington’s touchdown, and back-to-back scoring drives at the end of the first half. Jack Tannehill contributed a 41-yard field goal and successfully converted all four extra point attempts, remaining perfect on the season at 14-of-14.
