Jakarta-Realme continued its push for market share through durability innovation Thursday, adding a Guinness World Record for a mass smartphone water resistance test to its growing list of accolades. Building on a previous record from the Museum of Rekor indonesia (MURI) for long-term water endurance, the company is strategically targeting a segment of the Indonesian market where ruggedness is a key purchasing factor. The new record, achieved with 276 participants, accompanies the upcoming November 26th release of the Realme C85 series-touted as the first phone globally with IP69 Pro protection.

Realme has continued its streak of record-breaking achievements, adding another Guinness World Record to its collection following previous recognition from the Museum of Rekor Indonesia (MURI). The company is increasingly focused on demonstrating the durability of its devices, a strategy that resonates with a key segment of its Indonesian customer base.

Last year, the Realme C75 earned a MURI record for “Smartphone with the Longest Endurance in Water,” remaining functional after being submerged at a depth of 0.5 meters for 29 days.

On Thursday, November 20, 2025, Realme expanded on this focus with the Realme C85 series, securing a Guinness World Record for “Most people performing a mobile phone water resistance test simultaneously.” A total of 276 participants simultaneously tested the water resistance of the Realme C85 by submerging the phones for two minutes.

Krisva Angnieszca, Public Relations Lead at Realme Indonesia, stated the company’s priority is to develop functional innovations for the C-series. She added that achieving record-breaking status is a welcome byproduct of that effort.

Basically we want to be one of the first, or even the first, to introduce a particular technology or innovation,” said Angnieszca, who is known as Vava, during a hands-on event for the Realme C85 series in Jakarta.

Vava highlighted the upcoming Realme C85 series, scheduled for release on November 26, as the first phone globally to achieve IP69 Pro protection, combining the standards of IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K. The Realme C75 was previously the first phone in its price range to offer an IP69 rating.

The C-series is a key driver of Realme’s success in Indonesia, accounting for approximately 70-80% of the company’s total sales in the country.

Internal research conducted by Realme indicates that consumers in the IDR 2 million price segment prioritize durability over high-end performance, particularly those working in field-based occupations. As a result, Realme consistently focuses on durability innovations within this segment.

“We will continue to monitor trends as well. If the trend shifts, and people in these blue-collar jobs no longer prioritize durability, but instead want something else, we can adapt and develop accordingly,” Vava concluded.
