Jeremy Renner Faces Misconduct Allegations from Filmmaker Yi Zhou
Actor Jeremy Renner is responding to allegations of misconduct made by filmmaker Yi Zhou, who claims a pattern of unwanted behavior beginning in June of this year.
In a series of posts on Instagram, Zhou alleges Renner sent her “a string of unwanted / unsolicited pornographic images” and details a non-consensual initial physical encounter, followed by later consensual interactions that she says remained deeply distressing. She also claims Renner “threatened to call immigration/ICE on me,” leaving her feeling “shocked and frightened.” Zhou, based in Los Angeles and originally from China, has directed the documentary “Masters of Cinema: Chronicles of Disney” and the animated film “Stardust Future,” the latter of which she states Renner participated in but then refused to promote. These allegations come as Renner continues his recovery from a severe snowplow accident in 2023 that garnered widespread attention.
A representative for Renner responded to a request for comment yesterday, stating, “The accusations being made by this individual are totally inaccurate and untrue.” Renner’s attorney, Marty Singer, reportedly sent Zhou a cease-and-desist letter on Friday to halt further “salacious lies,” though a response to a message sent to Singer’s office was not immediately returned. Zhou stated her motivation is “transparency,” adding, “I have the right to protect my professional reputation, to set boundaries, and to correct misinformation when selective reporting distorts the facts.”
This is not the first time Renner has faced public allegations of misconduct; in a 2025 interview with the Guardian promoting his memoir “My Last Breath,” he denied previous claims of substance abuse and verbal threats made during a custody dispute with his ex-wife, Sonni Pacheco. “Being accused of things you’ve not done, right? That doesn’t feel good to anybody,” Renner said at the time. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission offers resources on workplace harassment and employee rights.
Authorities have not yet commented on the situation, and Renner’s legal team is expected to vigorously defend against the allegations.
