Sacramento Launches Plan to Improve Safety on Fruitridge Road Corridor

The City of Sacramento today announced the Fruitridge Road Safety and Mobility Plan, a comprehensive effort to redesign the corridor between Riverside Boulevard and Stockton Boulevard to improve safety for all users.

The project focuses on a 3.5-mile stretch of Fruitridge Road – also known as Seamus Avenue west of Riverside Boulevard – identified as a high-injury area within the city’s Vision Zero Network. This designation highlights the corridor’s disproportionately high number of traffic fatalities and severe injury crashes involving pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers. The plan also considers existing multimodal connections like the Del Rio Trail and access to SacRT’s Blue Line, as well as bus routes 61, 205, and 252.

City officials state the Fruitridge Road project is a high priority, aligning with the City’s Transportation Priorities Plan. The initiative aims to address safety concerns while enhancing mobility for residents and visitors, potentially spurring economic development along the corridor. Details of ongoing and completed transportation projects related to the plan are available on the City’s Transportation Projects Dashboard.

The plan is currently in its initial stages, and city planners will be seeking public input throughout the development process to ensure the final design reflects the needs of the community. Officials stated further updates will be provided as the project progresses.
