Sadhguru Advocates Copper Water Storage for Health Benefits
Spiritual leader Sadhguru is promoting the practice of storing water in copper vessels, citing potential health benefits including detoxification and antimicrobial properties.
According to a recent post, Sadhguru explains that water “has memory” and benefits from being stored in copper. “If you keep water in a copper vessel, preferably overnight or at least for four hours, the water acquires a certain quality from the copper which is very good for your liver in particular and your health and energy in general,” he stated. He further noted that copper possesses antimicrobial qualities, capable of killing bacteria and viruses within minutes.
A study published in the Journal of Health, Population and Nutrition investigated the impact of copper containers on microbially contaminated drinking water, specifically targeting E. coli and salmonella. Researchers found that storing contaminated water in copper vessels for 16 hours effectively eliminated the bacteria, and also increased the water’s pH level, making it more alkaline. This research builds on ancient Ayurvedic practices that have long utilized copper for its medicinal properties – learn more about Ayurveda and its principles.
While Sadhguru’s recommendations are gaining traction, health professionals advise consulting with a doctor before making significant changes to one’s health routine. The increased interest in natural health remedies like this highlights a growing trend toward preventative wellness practices.
Officials have not yet issued a statement regarding the widespread adoption of this practice, but further research into the benefits of copper-infused water is expected.
