Golden Globe Winner Sally Kirkland Dies at 84

Sally Kirkland, the acclaimed actress known for her Golden Globe-winning role in “Anna,” has died at the age of 84, marking a loss for the acting community and fans worldwide.

Kirkland passed away at 1:50 AM PST today, according to her representative, Michael Greene, who stated she would be deeply missed. The actress had been receiving hospice care at a hospital in Palm Springs after suffering injuries from a recent fall and had been living with dementia for the past year. Her passing follows a period of declining health that prompted a GoFundMe campaign to assist with medical expenses.

Born in New York City in 1941, Kirkland began her career with a striking presence, being named one of Andy Warhol’s “13 Most Beautiful Women” in 1964 and pushing boundaries with her performance in the off-Broadway play “Sweet Eros” in 1968. She amassed over 200 credits throughout her career, appearing in films like “Charlie’s Angels,” “JFK,” and “Bruce Almighty,” but achieved her most significant recognition for her portrayal in “Anna,” earning both a Golden Globe in 1987 and an Academy Award nomination.

Beyond her acting career, Kirkland was an ordained minister, a dedicated yoga practitioner, and a mentor to numerous aspiring actors, including Barbra Streisand, Sandra Bullock, and Liza Minnelli. She is survived by her godson, Coty Galloway (Baily), three cousins, and several close friends. Officials have not yet announced funeral arrangements.
