Samuel Merritt University Partners with Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine to Boost Physician Pipeline

Samuel Merritt University (SMU) and the Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine (OCOM) announced today a new partnership designed to provide a clearer pathway to medical school for qualified students.

Under the agreement, eligible students completing SMU’s Master of Biomedical Sciences (MBS) program are now guaranteed an interview with OCOM, located in Winter Garden, Florida. This collaboration is part of SMU’s expanding network of Guaranteed Interview Partnerships, aimed at strengthening the healthcare workforce nationwide. The United States faces a projected shortage of physicians in the coming years, particularly in primary care.

“This collaboration reflects SMU’s dedication to expanding access to healthcare careers and supporting students who are ready to serve,” said Dr. Sathees Chandra, PhD, Dean of the SMU College of Health Sciences. OCOM, part of the Drs. Kiran and Pallavi Patel Global University (KPGU), is focused on training physicians to address health outcomes in Central Florida and beyond. “OCOM is going to change healthcare for the region for generations to come,” stated Dr. Robert Hasty, dean and chief academic officer of OCOM. “With an innovative medical school curriculum… our institution stands at the forefront of modern medical education.”

The partnership provides students with direct access to medical school training and support, investing in the future of patient care. Students interested in learning more about SMU’s Master of Biomedical Sciences program can find details on the university’s website. Further information about the growing field of osteopathic medicine can be found at the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine.

Officials stated that SMU and OCOM will continue to work together to refine the program and expand opportunities for students interested in pursuing careers in medicine.
