Initial investigations revealed that Alfons was stopped while driving in Tahrir Square when a police patrol searched his vehicle. Officers reportedly discovered approximately 5 grams of marijuana in the backseat, according to early reports.
Alfons reportedly admitted to possessing the drug and to ownership of the vehicle. He told authorities he was driving his wife to Tahrir Square for a job interview. He was subsequently taken into police custody for questioning before being presented to prosecutors.
