Officials in Sukabumi Regency, Indonesia, have reaffirmed their commitment to preventing and managing HIV/AIDS, marking World AIDS Day on Saturday, December 6, 2025, with a commemorative event.
The event, organized by the Sukabumi Regency AIDS Commission (KPA), was attended by Sukabumi Regent Asep Japar. Addressing attendees, Regent Japar emphasized the critical importance of community solidarity and concern in addressing the threat of HIV/AIDS. This renewed focus comes as global health organizations continue to work towards ending the HIV epidemic by 2030.
“This commemoration serves as a moment for reflection and strengthening collective awareness,” said Asep Japar. “Let us distance ourselves from the virus, not from those who live with it.”
Regent Japar stressed that individuals living with HIV/AIDS should not be stigmatized or ostracized. He argued that greater acceptance will improve access to appropriate healthcare services for those affected, while also helping to curb the spread of the virus. Reducing stigma is a key component of effective public health strategies for managing HIV/AIDS.
Asep Japar also advocated for strengthening inclusive and accessible healthcare systems, including HIV testing and access to treatment for vulnerable populations. He reminded the public that prevention begins with individual choices, such as avoiding risky sexual behaviors and refraining from injecting drug use.
