TERNATE, Indonesia — The Ternate City Government has announced adjusted work hours for civil servants throughout the month of Ramadan, which begins around March 11, 2026. The move aims to accommodate the observance of the Islamic holy month for government employees.
The adjustment, detailed in a letter dated February 13, 2026, and signed electronically by Ternate City Secretary Dr. Rizal Marsaoly, applies to Assistant City Secretaries, Mayoral Staff, Heads of Departments, Sub-district Heads, and Village Heads across the city.
According to the directive, based on Indonesian Presidential Regulation Number 21 of 2023 concerning Working Hours and Workdays for Government Agencies and Civil Servants, the adjusted work week will consist of 32.5 hours.
- Work hours during Ramadan will total 32 hours and 30 minutes per week.
- Specific work schedules during Ramadan are as follows:
- Monday through Thursday: 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM WIT, with a break from 12:30 PM – 1:00 PM WIT
- Friday: 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM WIT, with a break from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM WIT
Dr. Marsaoly confirmed the issuance of the letter regarding the adjusted work hours for civil servants during the fasting month.
The City Secretary explained that the adjusted schedule sets work hours from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM WIT, with a break from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM WIT on Mondays through Thursdays. Fridays will see work hours from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM WIT, with a break from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM WIT.
Regular work schedules will resume after the conclusion of Ramadan in 1447 Hijri/2026.

City officials noted that work hours, start times, and break times may vary between departments to accommodate specific tasks and functions, particularly those providing direct public services.
“This circular is issued for the knowledge and attention of all civil servants, including PNS and PPPK employees, within the Ternate City Government, and is to be implemented with full responsibility,” Dr. Marsaoly stated.
On behalf of the Mayor and Vice Mayor, as well as the entire Ternate City Government, the City Secretary extended greetings of Ramadan to all Muslims in Ternate.
